My Marketing Internship Journey

It began with a handshake post. A few months ago, I was on a completely different headspace. I felt extremely unprepared to enter the job market as a recent marketing grad with no experience in the field. I can confidently say that this is a common situation for recent grads. That’s why I feel so fortunate to have stumbled across an internship that allowed me not only acquire the necessary qualifications for the positions I wanted but to gain a wonderful learning experience.

In the college classroom, you learn the basics. You learn the terms, the theories, and the concepts. But you don’t gain the hands-on experience. You don’t learn how to strategize or how to think creatively. Through this internship, I was able to absorb all this and more thanks to Kim. Kim did much more than supervise me, she became a mentor. Through my time here at Embark Marketing, I learned the ins and outs of social media, search engine optimization, video and photo editing, how to write an SEO rich blog post, web development, public relations, and all about the food and beverage industry, among many other things. Every day was different, especially when we got to spend the day out of the office. On a special outing, Kim and I ventured out on a client pitch to the picturesque little town of New Braunfels. That was one of my favorite days because I got to witness how a business relationship begins. I was fascinated by the experience; I made sure to observe and listen intently to it all. On another occasion, we got to visit the local news station and sit in during a live taping of a lifestyle show. That was a super fun day because I got to see first-hand all of the intricacies of the world of TV production. As a viewer, it’s truly captivating to learn all that goes into filming and producing a live segment.

Before my internship, all my portfolio consisted of was school projects. Now, I can happily say that I would be proud to show off my unique portfolio. Quite frankly, I am so proud of all the projects I got to work on during my time here at Embark Marketing. And it goes without saying that I am endlessly grateful to have had Kim as a mentor through it all. I was never hesitant to ask her a question, no matter how small. She made my learning experience exceptionally comfortable and fun. Kim has inspired me immensely and has unknowingly instilled a passion for my field that I will take with me. My internship was much more than a bulleted list of skills on my resume; It was a memorable learning experience that I’ll be able to keep in my back pocket forever. I’ll always be grateful for all that I’ve acquired during this time, as it’s given me the confidence I lacked for entering the marketing field. As my journey here comes to an end, I leave a more well-rounded individual. Thanks for everything!
